COVID-19 has unfortunately hit New York the hardest in the United States. We, at Softheon, have been eager to do what we can to support our town, Stony Brook, on New York’s Long Island.
Stony Brook is home to Stony Brook University Hospital, the largest academic medical center on Long Island, the region’s only tertiary care center, and a Level 1 Trauma Center. The healthcare professionals at the hospital have been working tirelessly and selflessly around the clock to protect the health of Stony Brook, coronavirus-related or not.
To give the frontline warriors hopefully one less thing to think about, we’ve been donating 150 meals twice a week to the hospital. 20 of the meals go towards the hospital’s police dispatch office and the remaining 130 meals are distributed amongst the staff. We plan to continue to do this through May.
We’re also happy that through this process we get to support Stony Brook’s small businesses. Softheon has partnered with Capellini Trattoria Pizzeria to prepare and deliver the food donation.
Softheon’s Veronica Gonzales, who has been spearheading the effort, said, “It’s a great thing that our company is able to donate to Stony Brook University Hospital during these hard times. With this gesture, I hope they can see us supporting all those putting their life on the frontline in order to care for the people suffering with COVID-19.”
If you’re looking for ways to support healthcare professionals, consider the following:
- Donate or order food to the hospital.
- Offer to help friends or family in the healthcare field with childcare and/or any errands.
- Reach out to your hospital on specific ways you can help. Stony Brook University Hospital, for example, is accepting iPads to help patients connect with families and providers.
- Donate to charities providing resources to hospitals.
- Continue social distancing.
Softheon keeps those directly affected by the virus in our thoughts and appreciates our clients and partners’ cooperation in protecting our communities.
