How to be productive while working from home this summer

Over the past few months, the entire Softheon team has become working from home rock stars! However, we know that as the temperature rises outside, the desire to stay focused declines. We’ve all been there, but there are ways to work hard when you need to and play hard when your free time comes.

To ensure that you’re able to stay productive during work hours this summer, try out these solutions and see what works best for you.

Make the most of your morning

Have a good breakfast, take a quick walk outside, enjoy your coffee, meditate, etc. Then, while things are still quiet, take the time to organize your thoughts and create a plan for yourself. Taking time to do so reduces stress and allows you to focus more during the day.

Act like you’re going into the office

Getting dressed for work can help you feel like you’re actually going to work. It even makes you feel better about yourself. You don’t need to get overly dressed, but it makes a difference to wear a pair of pants and a shirt, rather than your pajamas.

Try time blocking

Time blocking is a time management method that requires you to divide your day into blocks of time, and each block is dedicated to completing a specific task. Instead of keeping an open-ended to-do list of things you’ll get to, you’ll have a concrete schedule that lays out what you’ll work on and when.

This method is worth experimenting with if you are easily distracted throughout your day. Additionally, be sure to work around any meetings you have and give yourself time to answer any emails or messages as well.

Give yourself breaks

Don’t be confined your dedicated working area all day. Give your mind time to digest what it’s just done, then come back. You’ll be sure to improve the quality of what you produce!

Don’t stop working if it’s a hard day

There will be times when you feel uninspired or just don’t feel productive. Train yourself to do some work anyway. You don’t want to go from “it’s not happening right now” to “this is too hard, I’ll just give up for the day.” Next thing you know, you never seem to get anything done.

Lastly, don’t forget to give yourself credit! These are trying times, and no one is perfect. Take care of yourself every day, and you’ll be well on your way to mastering working from home this summer.
